Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to start the Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Interface Scheme (PM-WANI Yojana) for citizens of India.
The public Wi-Fi access network interface (PM Wani) is expected to bring a major Wi-Fi revolution in India. Any citizen who to access the network from a PDO’s premise can do so only after an eKYC authentication process.
Public Data Offices (PDOs)
These can be comparable to a PCO or a cybercafé, to expand broadband Internet access across India, the government of India has approved the establishment of a public Wi-Fi network through the Public Data Offices (PDOs). public Wi-Fi networks or ‘access points’ can also be installed at local shops like grocery shops or street shops, also PODs can be any small shop or Common service center (CSC).
Neither license nor registration will be required for PDOs and there will not be any charge for them. Only the main objective of these Public Data Offices (PDOs)is to maintain, and operate only the WANI Wi-Fi access points to deliver broadband services. These PODs can provide internet on their own or will lease from Internet Service Provider (ISP).
PDO Aggregators (PDOAs)
Public Data Office Aggregators will take care of the authorization and accounting of the numerous PDOs in India.
